1/5/12 Today was 45 degrees outside! It must be the greenhouse effect :0P
So I took my sweet 3 yr old to preschool and my 1 yr old and I hit the track outside. She likes to sing. It was only 2 miles and thank goodness because I’m not sure if I could have sung Old McDonald any more times! And she always wants him to have a ‘doggie’ Poor farmer McDonald all dogs and no cows!
I feel like I’ve gotten better at the jogging stroller-I didn’t tip Andy out and she only said WHOA twice! I’m still trying to figure out whether or not I like to push with my left or my right hand. The other hand is free and I’m wondering what pushing it is doing to my form… I’m thinking that before too long I’ll probably have to go to the runners store and have them check my form out to see what damage pushing the stroller has done.
On a side note, there is a little hill on this path around the field and I like it because its like a dare every time I come to it.
Stretching tomorrow and then 5 miles on Saturday!
See ya later!
1/4/12 Workout: Today was sprints on the treadmill. Followed by Ab Ripper! I got my interval workout from FitSugar website. Its 5 mins on speed 5 and then going up and down from 5 to 7,8 and 9 every 2 minutes for the next 35 mins. I burn a lot of calories this way and have been excited that on my regular long runs my speed has increased.
The hubby was sick with the stomach flu through the night so I waited until the afternoon to do my workout to give him time to sleep-the treadmill is in our room. I hate waiting on a workout-I just feel like the day hasn’t begun until I get it done…
Tomorrow is suppose to be 45 degrees out. Warm enough to do an easy 2 miles outside, just in my Pearl Izumis not the vibrams-can’t stand when I can’t feel my feet! :0)
I have the single jogging stroller I use on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I drop my 3 yr old off at preschool and head to either the outside or indoor track at the local rec center. Not sure I could handle more than 3 miles on a double jogging stroller…
Tomorrow morning is my P90X rest day.
Off to bed!
So I started back up again. I am now officially back and training for my first marathon. I’m going to stick with blogging this time because I definitely want to document everything that I go through during this journey-and I mean EVERYTHING-so I’ll warn you before I get too graphical! :oP
You wouldn’t believe it but I am still running. Wow, with the training and a fun filled summer, I totally left everyone hanging. Well everyone that read this blog and doesn’t follow me on facebook or twitter. If you don’t-I suggest you click the fun little tabs at the top of the homepage cause thats where you’ll hear from me the most…
I did run the half marathon. We got on a bus super early in the morning, stood around fires for about an hour, made a quick stop at the porta potties and then took off running. Xiao literally took off. Long story short I finished in 2 hours and 5 mins. It was the most painful, heartbreaking (cause I didn’t make my 2 hour mark) longest time I’ve ever been sore experience. So you know what I did next? I signed up for a 10K just one month later.
I ran the July Freedom Festival 10K and had a lot more fun with that. Although my knee had been hurting still-but more of that on the next post. So then what did I do, I signed up for another half marathon. This one I’m taking it easy and enjoying the journey. Its a Halloween run, and I got my husband to agree to do it with me-we’ll be going as star trek characters.
And if that wasn’t enough, I already signed up for the full marathon in June of next year. You could say I’m addicted. I like running now. No, I probably won’t like doing another full marathon, and to be honest, I don’t actually like the racing part-yet… But I LOVE a challenge and I like the goal of a race. I would never get out and run just for running’s sake, but the thrill of a start, the research going into what nutrition is best and then the anticipation of my time all keep me going.
So there, you have it. I hate to run because I love it… And I actually invested in a good pair of shoes this time around.
Here is a video I did at the very beginning about how to start with running. Most people think you just GO. And thats one of the first ways you can hurt yourself. I know I wouldn’t be able to have come this far without having a proper shoe fitting first.
Now there is a huge debate over supportive vs. ‘natural’ shoes and I do have an opinion, but thats for another post.
PS I actually learned how to pronounce the name of my shoe since recording the video-goes to show how VERY NOVICE I was and that if I can do it, you can too!
Things that seem hard are not always that hard. Put one foot in front of the other, and you’ll get to the end.
And so here is another step-blogging.
I should have started this blog in the beginning, when I first started my journey of running, but you’ll have to just guess at what I’ve been thinking up to this point. I don’t intend for this to be all about running. Shoot after June 11th, I don’t know if I will still run… yeah I probably will-I got bit by the running bug, but this blog is about more than just running. Its about taking life in stride.
I am wife to a wonderful husband. I know thats a common phrase, but seriously-who is married to a man who does cooking, laundry AND changes diapers without complaint? I am also a mom, currently of 2 little ones-Noodles (10 months old) and Scooter (3 months old). But I want to also be know as ME. Wife and Mother are roles I play in this life along with daughter, sister and friend.
Running just a VERY short time has already taught me so much about life-from pacing to priorities and breathing to seeing. Its all a metaphorical marathon and we all have different ways to train.
But no matter how we prepare we all cross the finish line by doing the same thing, putting one foot in front of the other.
(PS don’t expect deep thoughts from me all the time, the kids are taking good naps today-but thats rare…)
