1/5/12 Workout: 2 Mile jog outside

1/5/12 Today was 45 degrees outside! It must be the greenhouse effect :0P

So I took my sweet 3 yr old to preschool and my 1 yr old and I hit the track outside. She likes to sing. It was only 2 miles and thank goodness because I’m not sure if I could have sung Old McDonald any more times! And she always wants him to have a ‘doggie’ Poor farmer McDonald all dogs and no cows!

I feel like I’ve gotten better at the jogging stroller-I didn’t tip Andy out and she only said WHOA twice! I’m still trying to figure out whether or not I like to push with my left or my right hand. The other hand is free and I’m wondering what pushing it is doing to my form… I’m thinking that before too long I’ll probably have to go to the runners store and have them check my form out to see what damage pushing the stroller has done.

On a side note, there is a little hill on this path around the field and I like it because its like a dare every time I come to it.

Stretching tomorrow and then 5 miles on Saturday!
See ya later!

1/4/12 Workout: Treadmill

1/4/12 Workout: Today was sprints on the treadmill. Followed by Ab Ripper! I got my interval workout from FitSugar website. Its 5 mins on speed 5 and then going up and down from 5 to 7,8 and 9 every 2 minutes for the next 35 mins. I burn a lot of calories this way and have been excited that on my regular long runs my speed has increased.

The hubby was sick with the stomach flu through the night so I waited until the afternoon to do my workout to give him time to sleep-the treadmill is in our room. I hate waiting on a workout-I just feel like the day hasn’t begun until I get it done…

Tomorrow is suppose to be 45 degrees out. Warm enough to do an easy 2 miles outside, just in my Pearl Izumis not the vibrams-can’t stand when I can’t feel my feet! :0)

I have the single jogging stroller I use on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I drop my 3 yr old off at preschool and head to either the outside or indoor track at the local rec center. Not sure I could handle more than 3 miles on a double jogging stroller…

Tomorrow morning is my P90X rest day.

Off to bed!

I’m back!!!

So I started back up again.  I am now officially back and training for my first marathon.  I’m going to stick with blogging this time because I definitely want to document everything that I go through during this journey-and I mean EVERYTHING-so I’ll warn you before I get too graphical!  :oP

Treadmill Running

When I first started, besides my shoes, I had no other gear to help me brave the cold weather-and thats because I didn’t WANT to brave the weather.  So I ran and ran and ran indoors.  I did my 3 miles, my 4 miles and even up to 8 miles on a Treadmill.  Then I ran out of Biggest Looser episodes and was forced outside.  That first run set me free and my LOVE for running began at that moment.  Now, I can’t even stand to do 2 miles-today was very tough.  (I still run indoors when the husband goes out cycling-it’s a give and take relationship we have)

Anyway, I actually did some research on how to run on the treadmill before starting to make sure I utilized what I had.

There are several pages worth of info if you google ‘training on a treadmill’  with lots of helpful support as well as plans to use the treadmill to your advantage. You can use them to work inclines and if your treadmill does it (mine doesn’t) you can use it to work declines as well.

Here is a fellow who has run a half, two full and an extreme trail ultramarathon-and all training was done on the treadmill.

Training For A Marathon On A Treadmill

And here is a training schedule that includes treadmill training that I used during my weekday runs:  Training plan w/ treadmill
Then I did some research to make sure I was running properly ON the treadmill.  I had every intention to go back to the Runners Corner for their technique class, but never did-but I think this video helped:

So there you go-the hubby is off to work early, you cant leave the kids alone-for me, it wasn’t an excuse to reach my dream.  I found a way through.
